Kaisa Tasanen is Professor of Dermatology and Leader of the Research Unit of Clinical Medicine at the University of Oulu and Chair of Dermatology at the Oulu University Hospital, Finland.
She received her medical degree, PhD and clinical training in dermatology at the University of Oulu. She has worked as a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Münster and University of Freiburg funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. She is a previous Vice-Dean of the University of Oulu Graduate School and the President of the Finnish Dermatological Society. She is currently a board member of the European Society of Dermatological Research, European Dermatology Forum and Nordic Dermatology Society, and Finnish delegate in the UEMS Section and Board of Dermatology and Venereology.
Her research interests include the biology and pathology of cutaneous connective tissue with the focus on the molecular mechanisms and pathogenesis of blistering skin diseases, especially bullous pemphigoid. The projects of her research group have combined several approaches including epidemiological and genetic studies, and clinical, translational and experimental research.
