Title: How the Nose Knows, in You, a Maggot and a Neanderthal

Matthew Cobb is Professor of Zoology at the University of Manchester, where he studies the sense of smell. As well as researching on olfaction and pheromone detection in insects, he is also interested in the history of science, and has recently published The Idea of the Brain – The Past and Future of Neuroscience (2020) and Life’s Greatest Secret: The Race to Crack the Genetic Code (2015). His most recent book is Smell: A Very Short Introduction. He is an engaging speaker, and his talk will involve audience participation, featuring nose-on smelling.
