An academic professor at Newcastle University funded by national and international research council, NIHR, charity and industry awards, Penny leads a translational research group directed primarily towards biomarker discovery, development and validation for cutaneous malignancy. With a focus on deregulated cellular signaling and how this can be harnessed for the benefit of patients with melanoma, Penny has published over 100 manuscripts with her group’s recent research culminating in the identification, validation and commercialization of AMBLor as a prognostic biomarker for early AJCC stage I/II melanoma, as well as the development of translational multimodal AI models for improved prognostication of melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma. Renown for her expertise in dermato-oncology, Penny has also served as committee member for The British Society of Investigative Dermatology, as a section editor for the British Journal of Dermatology and on several advisory boards including The British Skin Foundation Grant advisory board and UK NHS Trust Industrial liaison boards.
